Ele Carpenter / Many:Many Project

Project Outline

The Many:Many project is based on Brecht`s theory of theatre and radio, where the apparatus can be transformed into a broadcaster as well as a reciever. This two way communication tool has been realised with the internet enabling people to map their own social networks, and to upload as well as download their creative projects and personal experiences.

The connectivity of the internet has enabled specialist interest groups to connect with each other, alongside new economic models for cultural and social networking, production and distribution. Commerical social networking sites such as Facebook enable people to map their six degrees of separation, closing the number of social connections between individuals. In it`s early days LinkedIn used a distributed network diagram in it`s graphic introduction.

But social networks exist on and offline. Relationships are consolidated in real time and space, where complex communication enables sophisticated knowledge sharing.
This project will use the network topolgies used to design the internet in the 1960s and re-work them into personal social contexts.
