Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October / 11:00 am / Stiwdio, Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff

Project Outline

Kathy Hinde will encourage visitors to document their local environment, by feeding selected paper maps of Cardiff into hand wound music boxes - mapping a personal journey in the city through improvised music and sound.

Biography

Interdisciplinary artist Kathy Hinde creates work combining audio and visual experimentations with sound, musical automata and composing, that is often performed in a live context to an audience. She is interested in the fusion of high-tech and low-tech, sometimes incorporating slide projection, music boxes and toy pianos alongside digitally manipulated images of sound and moving image.

Kathy’s solo and collaborative work has been shown across the UK, Europe, China and South America and she has collaborated with leading contemporary musicians, composers and performers from various disciplines. She is a member of Polar Produce - a multidisciplinary, mixed media arts research and performance group based in Bristol, UK. The group`s work explores the interface between virtual and real environments with particular emphasis on real-time, site-specific and locative experiences.
